Event Details
The club is for adults who are interested in the period from approximately 1750-1850. Together, we'll explore books about the people who inhabited the land now called the United States of America as this nation transformed itself from a philosopher's dream of democratic rule to a messy but promising reality. We'll read biographies, histories, and historical fiction that shed light on those who were here before us, including European colonists, free and enslaved African Americans, and Native Americans. Through reading more about the period, we hope to dispel myths, uncover truths, and foster civil discussions about where our nation has been...and where it is going. For our July, 2025 meeting, members have chosen to read Valiant Ambition: George Washington, Benedict Arnold, and the Fate of the American Revolution by award-winning author Nathaniel Philbrick.
