Program Description

Event Details

The club is for adults who are interested in the period from approximately 1750-1850. Together, we'll explore books about the people who inhabited the land now called the United States of America as this nation transformed itself from a philosopher's dream of democratic rule to a messy but promising reality. We'll read biographies, histories, and works of historical fiction that shed light on those who were here before us, including European colonists, free and enslaved African Americans, and Native Americans. Through reading more about the period, we hope to dispel myths, uncover truths, and foster civil discussions about where our nation has been...and where it is going. For our first session, we are reading Stephanie Dray's The Women of Chateau Lafayette. However, club members will have a voice in choosing what we read in future months. We're just getting started, so we encourage you to show up to help us determine what we will read during the 2025 calendar year.
