Event Details
The club is for adults who are interested in the period from approximately 1750-1850. Together, we'll explore books about the people who inhabited the land now called the United States of America as this nation transformed itself from a philosopher's dream of democratic rule to a messy but promising reality. We'll read biographies, histories, and historical fiction that sheds light on those who were here before us, including European colonists, free and enslaved African Americans, and Native Americans. Through reading more about the period, we hope to dispel myths, uncover truths, and foster civil discussions about where our nation has been...and where is is going. For our second session, members have chosen to read My Dear Hamilton: A Novel of Eliza Hamilton by best-selling authors Stephanie Dray and Laura Kamoie. We’re very excited that less than one week after our next meeting, Stephanie Dray will visit Jeffersonville Township Public Library to talk about her research into the family seat of General Lafayette. See our events calendar for more details about this related event. We're just getting started, so we encourage you to show up to help us determine what we will read during the 2025 calendar year.
