Event Details
The club is for adults who are interested in the period from approximately 1750-1850. Together, we'll explore books about the people who inhabited the land now called the United States of America as this nation transformed itself from a philosopher's dream of democratic rule to a messy but promising reality. We'll read biographies, histories, and historical fiction that sheds light on those who were here before us, including European colonists, free and enslaved African Americans, and Native Americans. Through reading more about the period, we hope to dispel myths, uncover truths, and foster civil discussions about where our nation has been...and where is is going. For our April meeting, members have chosen to read First Ladies of the Republic: Martha Washington, Abigail Adams, Dolley Madison, and the Creation of an Iconic American Role by Jeanne Abrams. We're just getting started, so we encourage you to show up to help us determine what we will read during the 2025 calendar year.
