In honor of National Native American Heritage Month join us for a screening of the1998 film Smoke Signals.
Two young men embark on a roadtrip to retrieve the ashes of one's deceased father whilst grappling with his legacy and their differing perspectives on Native identity.
Noted for being the first nationally wide-released film written, directed, and produced by Native Americans, this coming-of-age dramedy is based on Sherman Alexie's short story collection, The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven. Smoke Signals won both the Filmmakers Trophy and the Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival.
