You have wanted to fix a zipper, shorten pants, or set in pockets for months or years. You’re
unsure how to tackle the job. If only you knew more about sewing!
Now’s the time to learn if you have basic sewing skills. That means you can operate a sewing
machine, can sew a straight seam and a curved seam, and can pivot the needle around a
corner of stitching. In this class, you won’t learn to sew.
What you need to know about the “Sewing Repairs Workshop”:
As soon as you register, please send an email message to the presenter at judymartin741@gmail.com. Describe your project. For example . . . “I have a jacket that I love. The zipper has been broken for over a year. I want to fix the zipper so I can wear my jacket again without holding it closed.” Judy will reply to your message telling you what you need to bring to the workshop to fix your zipper. Another example . . . “Why don’t ready-made dresses have pockets? I love my new summer dress. No pockets. I’d like to add them.” The reply will tell you what you need to bring to the workshop to insert pockets. One more example . . . “I have a quilt from my grandma. I love that quilt. But the binding is coming loose in several places. Do you think I can fix it?”
Your message describing your project is required so that you are prepared to repair your garment.
Other possible projects:
Lengthening or shortening a dress, skirt, pants.
Closing a rip or tear.
Letting out or taking in seams to change the fit of the garment.
If you’re unsure if your project will be addressed, please ask in an email message to
judymartin741@gmail.com before you register.
Projects we won’t address: Altering garments by adding features, removing features, or
upcycling garments by combining garments. That’s a future workshop. Stay tuned!
The Library has 4 sewing machines that will be shared. If you have a portable sewing
machine, you’re invited to bring it to the workshop. Only you will use your machine.
