Join us on this date at our Jeffersonville location when The Quilt Lady Presents The Underground Railroad Quilt!
Donna Schultz aka The Quilt Lady is from English, Indiana and she has been quilting for 30 years now and presenting for the last 10 years. A former teacher, she became interested in The Underground Railroad after attending a workshop on it. That workshop led to the creation of her Underground Quilt, in which each block gave the slaves directions in how and when to leave and which route to take toward a safe house and ultimately, their freedom! Schultz will have The Underground Quilt she made with her for viewing after the presentation. Carmela Broadus, Schultz' assistant, is from Ramsey, Indiana and has been quilting for 20 years now.
The Underground Railroad, a resistance to slavery that operated throughout the United States until the end of the Civil War, was a network of people, routes, and places that helped those enslaved African Americans to escape to their freedom.
