Program Description

Event Details

Our special guest on this date, at the Clarksville Library, will be Donna D. McCreary. She is a writer, lecturer, and performer and the author of Lincoln's Table: Victorian Recipes from Kentucky, Indiana, and Illinois to the White House; Mary Lincoln Demystified: Frequently Asked Questions about Abraham's Wife; Fashionable First Lady: The Victorian Wardrobe of Mary Lincoln; The Kentucky Todds in Lexington Cemetery; and an expanded edition of her recipe book, Lincoln's Table: A President's Culinary Journey from Cabin to Cosmopolitan. From 1992-2012, she portrayed Mary Lincoln as part of Indiana's History Alive program and for various organizations, including the Jeffersonville Township Public Library.

Since March is Women's History Month, what better time to learn about First Lady Fashion - Successes and Failures such as Dolley Madison's (1768-1849) turban, Jackie Kennedy's (1929-1994) pearls, Betty Ford's (1918-2011) pantsuit, and Melania Trump's (1970-) menswear, which have all made fashion headlines. Some styles have delighted the public while others have caused chaos and even the near extinction of an exotic animal.

(Note: Donna will have copies of her books available for purchase)
