On this date, Let's Learn at the Library with Kevin "Kev" Trees!
In recognition of Veterans Day on Monday, November 11, it is fitting that today's special guest is Kevin "Kev" Trees. He served four years of active duty in the Marine Corps. Kev also worked as a homicide detective and police sergeant with the Louisville Metro Police Department.
Ironically, the author of the book The Serious Business of Laughing at Life, Kev knows only too well what can sometimes happen when we least expect it. He was a happily married father of two and in the best shape of his life when he experienced a near-fatal motorcycle accident and subsequent 38 surgeries, which culminated in having part of one leg amputated.
Kev has been a RAKA or right above-knee amputee since having part of his leg removed in October of 2005. In 2006, he was only one of two above knee amputee cops in the nation.
During today's talk, Kev will talk about many things concerning his life both before and after the accident. What he wants everyone to know is that "many things are still possible after having an amputation." His story is both positive and life-affirming and one that you don't want to miss!
