Diane Stepro, our Family and Local History Librarian, will tell the story of Jean Baptiste Richard dit la Fleur, the first European settler who was known to have made Indiana his permanent home and his wife, Marie Anne You, a woman born to a Wea mother after a brief affair with Sieur Pierre You, translator to the exploring expeditions of La Salle.

Both Jean Baptiste and Marie Anne passed away before the American Revolution, but their descendants remained in Indiana, becoming allies to George Rogers Clark in his quest to wrest this region from British control.  Many Hoosiers today can claim descent from this historic couple, including the presenter herself, who is their 9th great grandchild.
