Program Description

Event Details

Join us this evening for the first of five sessions (11/4, 11/18, 11/25, 12/2, and 12/9) on How to Build a High Performance Home, presented by Dr. Ted Cummings.

A home, as we know, is a collection of interacting systems that must be properly designed, constructed, and installed in order to achieve optimal levels of comfort, durability, healthfulness, safety, resilience, and efficiency.

In this series (5 sessions altogether), Dr. Cummings will discuss what needs to be done to make a home function optimally for Comfort, Indoor Air Quality, Electrical Supply, Energy Efficiency, Water Supply Function, Universal Design, Thermal Efficiency, Humidity Control, Durability, Resilience, Healthfulness, Affordability, and numerous other goals, specifically for this Climate Zone.

Please note that neither design nor decor will be addressed, except where it might apply to the above; and no persons or products will be promoted.

Dr. Cummings has spent the past ten years becoming reasonably knowledgeable in the building science of High Performance Home (HPH) construction. Seven years ago, a local builder constructed his home following the basic principles of HPH construction. Since then, he has continued to research this subject and has learned so much more about what it entails. A reasonably authoritative source informed him that the home he shares with his Beloved Bonnie, is The Most Energy Efficient Home in Indiana. As a retired family physician, his only qualifications are: interest in the subject, experience in building his own home, success in comparison to high performance homes nationwide, and continued reading and research. He will be glad to pass on what he has learned for you to use in the planning stages of your own home!

Pre-registration is requested for planning purposes.
