Program Description

Event Details

Join us on this date at our Jeffersonville location when our special guest will be Author Eileen Yanoviak, PhD.

Her new book, The Tenacious Nurse Nichols: An Unsung African American Civil War Hero, is set to be released in May. She will be doing a series of readings from it as well as signing/selling copies for us. It will be sold for $29.95 and Eileen will accept cash, credit cards, Venmo, or the cash app.

Lucy Higgs Nichols was a Civil War nurse who escaped enslavement to join the Indiana 23rd Regiment. She achieved notoriety, nobility, and self-sufficiency in spite of harrowing obstacles and unimaginable pain, in a post-Civil War era that often denied Black Americans and women justice and opportunity.

Eileen Yanoviak holds a PhD in Art History from the University of Louisville, and she is the former Director of the Carnegie Center for Art and History, located in New Albany, Indiana. Currently, she is a non-profit professional and she teaches at Northern Kentucky University and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

It's our pleasure to welcome Eileen back to the Jeffersonville Township Public Library on this day!
