Event Details

Please join us on this date for our Big Read Event with special guest Troy Fears, Executive Director of the CANDLES Holocaust Museum and Education Center, located in Terre Haute, Indiana.

CANDLES, an acronym for Children of Auschwitz Nazi Deadly Lab Experiments Survivors, was founded in 1984 by Eva Mozes Kor with assistance from her twin sister, Miriam Mozes Zieger.

Together, they wanted to locate other surviving Mengele twins. Altogether, Eva and Miriam were able to find 122 individual Mengele twins living in ten countries and four continents. Eva, who opened CANDLES in Terre Haute in 1995, subsequently passed away on July 4, 2019.

Troy Fears, a life-long Terre Haute resident, became the new Executive Director of CANDLES in late July 2021. Prior to this position, Troy was a public school administrator and nonprofit director.
